Why Pakistan for Amazon FBA Clothing
Pakistan's apparel manufacturing sector has supplied global brands for over five decades. For Amazon FBA sellers specifically, Sialkot-based manufacturers offer a cost structure that is very difficult to match elsewhere. A mid-weight hoodie manufactured to brand-quality spec in Sialkot typically costs $12–16 per unit on a DDP basis to a US FBA warehouse. The equivalent product manufactured domestically in the USA or the UK lands at $28–35 per unit — a cost gap of 40–60% that directly determines your margin at any given price point.
Beyond cost, Pakistan offers several structural advantages for Amazon sellers. Factories are predominantly English-speaking at the management level, removing the translation friction that creates specification errors with some other sourcing destinations. Sialkot's manufacturing heritage spans sportswear, activewear, and casualwear, with deep local expertise in performance fabrics and precision cut-and-sew construction. ISO 9001:2015 certified factories like Al Wahab Global have established QC systems that produce consistent bulk-to-sample quality — a critical requirement for maintaining Amazon listing ratings.
Pakistan holds GSP+ (Generalised Scheme of Preferences Plus) trade status with the European Union, which means Pakistani-origin clothing enters EU markets at significantly reduced or zero import duty rates. For UK sellers, the Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS) provides similar preferential access. Al Wahab Global has served 500+ FBA brands across 30+ countries, and FNSKU labeling, poly bagging to Amazon specification, and carton compliance labeling are fully integrated into our standard production workflow — not add-on services.
DDP vs FOB: Which Shipping Term to Choose
Two Incoterms dominate international apparel trade: FOB (Free On Board) and DDP (Delivered Duty Paid). Understanding the difference is critical before placing your first order.
Under FOB, the manufacturer's responsibility ends when goods are loaded onto the vessel at the origin port. From that point, you arrange and pay for ocean or air freight, import customs clearance, customs broker fees, and final delivery to the FBA warehouse. This requires relationships with a freight forwarder, a customs broker licensed in your destination country, knowledge of the correct HTS tariff classification for your goods, and the cash flow to pay import duties before Amazon receives your inventory. FOB pricing is lower on the invoice but the total landed cost is often equivalent to DDP once all additional costs are added.
Under DDP, the manufacturer handles everything — freight, export clearance, import customs, duty payment, and final delivery to the FBA warehouse door. You receive one consolidated price and a tracking number. For first-time importers and FBA sellers scaling to their first 1,000 units, DDP is almost always the right choice. No customs broker is needed, there is a single point of contact for any issues, and the manufacturer bears responsibility until confirmed delivery. DDP typically adds $3–8 per piece depending on destination country and shipping method — sea DDP becomes most economical at 300+ units, while air DDP is used for first orders and time-sensitive restocks at any quantity.
Amazon FBA Packaging Requirements
This is the most technically demanding section of shipping from any overseas manufacturer to Amazon FBA. Non-compliant packaging results in receiving refusals, re-labeling fees charged by Amazon, or inventory being returned to sender. Get these specifications exactly right before your first shipment.
FNSKU Barcodes
FNSKU stands for Fulfillment Network Stock Keeping Unit — it is Amazon's internal tracking code that links your physical inventory to a specific ASIN and size/colour variant in their warehouse system. You generate FNSKU codes in your Seller Central account under Manage Inventory > Print Item Labels. Each unique combination of ASIN, size, and colour requires its own distinct FNSKU code. Provide these codes to Al Wahab Global before production closes — typically by the time the order enters cutting. Labels are applied to the interior or exterior of the poly bag depending on your label type. Wrong FNSKU codes are the single most common and costly error FBA sellers make when working with overseas manufacturers — double-check every code against your Seller Central listings before submitting them.
Poly Bag Requirements
Every garment must be individually poly-bagged. Amazon requires a minimum 1.5 mil (0.038mm) bag thickness — thinner bags fail during warehouse handling. Any poly bag with an opening of 5 inches or larger must display a suffocation warning on the exterior, either printed directly on the bag or applied as a sticker label. The FNSKU label must be scannable on the exterior of the sealed bag. The size designation (S, M, L, XL, etc.) must be visible on the outside of the bag so pickers can identify the product without opening it. Al Wahab Global stocks Amazon-compliant poly bags in standard garment sizes and applies all required labels and warnings as part of the standard FBA packing service.
Carton Specifications
FBA carton limits are strict: maximum 50 lbs (22.7 kg) weight, maximum 25" x 25" x 25" (63.5 cm³) dimensions. Cartons exceeding these limits are refused at receiving. Amazon requires the Shipment ID label — generated in your Seller Central inbound shipment plan — to be placed on two adjacent sides of every carton. Each carton must contain only one ASIN/FNSKU per Amazon's standard-sized product policy (unless you have special approval for mixed SKU cartons). AWG generates a packing list for every carton and photographs carton labels before shipment as part of our pre-shipment documentation.
Important: Providing wrong FNSKU codes is the #1 mistake FBA sellers make with overseas manufacturers. Generate your FNSKU codes in Seller Central and cross-check every code against the exact ASIN, size, and colour variant before sending them to your factory. A mismatched FNSKU results in stranded inventory at Amazon's warehouse.
Step-by-Step: Order to FBA Warehouse
- Place order and pay 50% deposit — Confirm style, quantities, colourways, sizes, and DDP destination address.
- Share FNSKU codes for each ASIN and size — Provide the complete FNSKU label file for every unique SKU in your order. Double-check before submitting.
- Create inbound shipment in Seller Central — Log in to Seller Central, create your inbound shipment plan specifying quantities and destination FC. Amazon assigns warehouse addresses.
- Share FBA warehouse address with AWG — Provide the exact FBA receiving warehouse address(es) assigned by Amazon's shipping plan.
- Download and share carton labels — Export carton labels from your Seller Central shipment plan and send to AWG. These go on two sides of every carton.
- AWG completes production and QC — Garments are sewn, finished, and inspected against the approved sample. Measurement checks and visual QC are completed.
- AWG applies FNSKU labels, poly bags, and packs cartons — Every unit is FNSKU-labeled, individually poly-bagged, and packed into cartons with Amazon-compliant labels.
- Pre-shipment QC photos provided — Full photographic documentation of packed cartons, labels, and poly-bagged units sent for your review before shipment.
- Pay 50% balance — Final payment released upon your approval of pre-shipment photos.
- AWG ships DDP — Freight booked, export documentation completed, shipment dispatched via your chosen method (air or sea).
- Track with AWB number — Air waybill or Bill of Lading number provided for real-time tracking from Pakistan to destination.
- Amazon receives (3–7 days after arrival) — FBA warehouse processes the shipment. Your ASIN inventory count updates and the listing goes live for sale.
Import Duties by Destination
Import duty on clothing varies by HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule) chapter, fabric composition, and destination country. Understanding your duty rate is essential for accurate landed cost calculation — even with DDP shipping, the duty is embedded in the quoted price.
For USA importers under HTS chapters 61 and 62: cotton T-shirts run approximately 16.5%, polyester activewear and performance jerseys approximately 32%, and hoodies approximately 17.5%. Pakistan does not hold MFN preferential trade status with the USA, so standard rates apply. UK importers benefit significantly from DCTS (Developing Countries Trading Scheme) status, under which many Pakistan-origin clothing categories enter at 0% duty. EU importers benefit from GSP+ (Generalised Scheme of Preferences Plus), reducing duties to 0–12% depending on category. Australia applies 5–10% duty on most garment categories from Pakistan.
With DDP shipping, Al Wahab Global handles all duty payment directly — you receive one total price with duties included. There is no separate customs payment, no broker invoice, and no cash flow surprise at customs clearance. DDP pricing from AWG is fully transparent: we break down manufacturing cost, freight cost, and landed duty in our quotation so you can model your margin accurately before committing to production.
Shipping Times and Costs
For first-time FBA sellers, air express or air freight is almost always the right choice — the faster inventory turnover and ability to verify sell-through before committing to a sea freight quantity justifies the higher per-unit shipping cost. Once you have established sales velocity data, sea LCL or FCL reduces your shipping cost by 60–80% compared to air.
Common Mistakes
- Wrong FNSKU codes — The most expensive single error. Generate fresh codes from Seller Central and verify every one before sending to the factory.
- Choosing FOB without a customs broker — FOB is appropriate when you have an established import workflow. Without a licensed broker, your shipment can stall at customs for weeks.
- No inbound shipment created in Seller Central before shipping — Amazon cannot receive inventory without a pre-created shipment plan. Create the shipment plan first, then provide warehouse addresses to AWG.
- Ignoring import duties in cost calculation — Many first-time importers forget to include duty in their landed cost model, discovering the real margin only after clearing customs.
- Cartons exceeding FBA size or weight limits — 50 lbs and 25" x 25" x 25" are hard limits. Cartons above these are refused and must be re-packed at your cost.
- Sending all inventory in one shipment — Split your first order: send a portion by air to validate sell-through and quality before the larger sea freight shipment arrives.
Landed Cost Example
Here is a worked example for a private label hoodie sold on Amazon USA to illustrate how the numbers stack up:
This example illustrates why pricing at $54.99 rather than $44.99 — a $10 price increase — nearly doubles gross profit per unit from $13.89 to $23.89. Pakistan manufacturing cost gives you the product quality to justify a premium price point while maintaining strong margins. The unit economics only get better as you move from air freight to sea freight at higher volumes.
